Student learn how to draw portraits using pencil and pen, understanding how to draw using traditional techniques. Students learn more about proportion and how to draw the structure of a face accurately. The project allows students to develop their skills in drawing and experiment with creative mark making. The theme within this project is 'Diversity'. We aim to investigate extraordinary people, who have insired many for their work with social justice and human rights. Students then create detailed portraits of some of these people, showcasing the skills learnt so far.
Students will recieve regular verbal feedback in their lessons. They will also take part in self and peer assessments opportunities, alongside time for DIRT (dedicated, improvement and reflection time)
Students will be assessed on 2 key tasks in this project.

Students learn about the artwork of Luke Dixon. They explore new ways of mark making to create contemporary style portraiture in the style of his work. We focus on the theme 'Diversity' where students learn about inspiring individuals who fight for human and civil rights. Students then choose someone they are inspired by to create their portriat in the style of Luke Dixon.

Students will be assessed on 1 key task in this project.

Students learn how to create artwork based on Birds - they explore drawing, painting and printing. Students will create their own sketchbooks to use for this project. They will also explore 3D making skills and design their own bird sculpture. This project allows students to be more conceptual and base their designs on a topic of choice. They will choose an issue that means something to them (for example; poverty, human rights, mental health, climate change etc) and design a sculpture that tells a story. This is a great project for students to express their own opinions and emotions through art.
