Intent

The BTEC Level 3 Business aims to develop confident, commercially aware, and employable learners who possess the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to succeed in the dynamic world of business. The programme is designed to provide a broad, coherent, and purposeful study of key business functions—including marketing, finance, human resources, operations, and leadership—while fostering an applied understanding through real-world contexts and vocationally relevant experiences.

Business is a subject that is dynamic, progressive and useful in every aspect of life. It is relevant to all professions whether you choose to start your own business or progress in the business you work for. Anyone with a general interest in business, ethics, the economy, finance, marketing, human resources, management, will enjoy the course.

Our intent is to prepare learners for ambitious progression into higher education, apprenticeships, or employment, enabling them to become adaptable, responsible, and professional individuals ready to succeed in the modern business environment.

Implementation

Our BTEC Level 3 Business course is delivered through engaging, practical lessons that help students understand how real businesses work. We introduce core topics—such as marketing, finance, and human resources—in a logical order so students can build their knowledge step by step.

Learning is hands‑on and connected to real life. Students take part in projects, case studies, group tasks, presentations, and research activities that mirror genuine business situations. This helps them develop confidence, communication skills, teamwork, and problem‑solving abilities that employers and universities value.

We also bring learning to life through employer talks, visits, and business‑related challenges, giving students an insight into different career pathways and the world of work. Digital tools and independent study tasks support students in becoming organised, resilient, and responsible learners.

Assessment methods are varied so all students can succeed. These include written assignments, presentations, reports, and externally assessed exams. Teachers provide clear, supportive feedback to help students improve and achieve their full potential.

Our supportive, structured approach ensures all learners are well prepared for their next steps—whether that’s university, an apprenticeship, or a career in the business sector

Students will:

  • know and understand business concepts, business terminology, business objectives, the integrated nature of business activity and the impact of business on individuals and wider society
  • apply knowledge and understanding to contemporary business issues and to different types and sizes of businesses in local, national and global contexts
  • develop as enterprising individuals with the ability to think commercially and creatively to demonstrate business acumen, and draw on evidence to make informed business decisions and solve business problems
  • develop as effective and independent students, and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds
