Netball/Rugby:
Whilst developing the five core individual skills, students will also begin to develop their tactical understanding of the game.
Netball:
1. Passing and receiving (chest pass, shoulder pass, one/two handed passing).
2. Dodging – single/double/sprint.
3. Marking a player.
4. Shooting (close/distance) or rebounding (attacking or defending) or marking a pass/intercepting
(centre court players).
5. Footwork and movement – landing on one/two feet, pivoting.
Rugby:
1. Handling (passing and receiving, long and short, at varying pace, push, spin, switch/scissors).
2. Tackling (front, rear, side, smother, chop).
3. Maul (body position, binding, retaining ball).
4. Ruck (body, position, jackle, sealing off).
5. Kicking (at least two types from punt/spiral, grubber, drop kick/re start, box kick, up and under,
penalty/conversion) or scrummaging (binding, body position, generation of power/hooking, as appropriate to position) or line-out.
Students will be assessed in team activities (in line with the 1-9 level ladder).
The unit will finish with an inter-house competition.
This is in line with extra-curricular activities and fixtures. All students are encouraged to attend EC clubs.
Badminton - Students will be introduced to the basic skills in badminton including serving and forehand/backhand shots.
Adventurous activities - Students will develop their cooperation, communication, leadership and thinking skills through activities such as team building tasks and orienteering activities.
Students will be assessed in individual and team activities (in line with the 1-9 level ladder).
Basketball
Students will develop their ability to perform the core skills in basketball. Students will develop their sportsmanship/etiquette to ensure a positive learning environment.

Football
Students will develop their technique for all core skills in football. They will develop their tactical and strategic understanding of the game.
1. Passing/receiving – either foot.
2. Dribbling/moving with the ball – either foot.
3. Shooting - at goal OR wing play and
crossing for attackers OR playing a through
ball to attackers.
4. Heading.
5. Tackling, jockeying, closing down and
marking.
Football is the extra-curricular sport in term 3 & 4.
All students are encouraged to attend all EC opportunities.
Students will be assessed in team activities (in line with the 1-9 level ladder).
Accurate Replication:
Students will refine their flight and vaulting techniques/sports across skills with varying degrees of difficulty and challenge appropriate to the individual.
Outdoor Fitness:
Students will learn through a variety of training methods (continuous training/interval training/fartlek training/circuit training) and fitness tests. Students will also participate in cross-country running.
Students will be assessed in individual activities (in line with the 1-9 level ladder).
Athletics:
Students will have one sports hall athletics session (to recap rules and knowledge from Y7). Students will further develop the techniques learnt in Y7 for all athletics events.
Track:
1. Starts/finishes.
2. Arm action – effectiveness and consistency.
3. Leg action to create appropriate pace – consistency and/or change of pace.
Jumps:
1. Run-up/speed.
2. Take-off.
3. Flight and landing.
Throws:
1. Grip, stance and preparation to throw.
2. Movement into throwing action.
3. Release, follow-through and recovery.
Students will be assessed in individual activities (in line with the 1-9 level ladder).
Tennis - students will continue to progress their understanding of tennis, further developing their ability to serve, rally and outwit opponents.
Striking and Fielding:
Students will further develop their transferable skills across softball, cricket and rounders.
Students will be assessed in team and individual activities (in line with the 1-9 level ladder).
